All of these were photographed in our back yard in north west San Diego county. Some of the photos on the page may have been then elsewhere such as a Costa but at least some where at taken at our feeders. August is the most active time of the year with both residents and an occasional migrant.

The purple does not start under
the beak. Black actually goes
under the chin and then abruptly changes to purple gorget.
